What Clients Ask Us About Corporate Tax Filing

Direct answers to what Canadian business owners actually ask before hiring an accountant.

How much does Corporate Tax Filing cost in Canada?

Corporate Tax Filing starts at $$90. The quote is locked at the outset and does not change mid-engagement, and you pay only after you have reviewed and approved the deliverable. Compare every plan on our transparent pricing page.

What documents do I need for Corporate Tax Filing?

At minimum: prior-year returns and notices of assessment, your bank and credit-card statements for the fiscal period, payroll records if you have employees, and GST/HST filings. We send a checklist tailored to your situation after the free 15-minute call.

How long does Corporate Tax Filing take?

Most engagements are completed within 3 to 5 business days once your documents are complete. Catch-up work covering multiple years takes longer, and we tell you the realistic timeline before you commit rather than after.

What happens if the CRA reviews or audits my filing?

We respond on your behalf at no extra charge for any return we prepared. Every figure we file is supported by documentation retained in your file, which is what turns a CRA review from a crisis into correspondence. See how our CRA audit support works.

Can you handle late or missed filings?

Yes. Late filing penalties compound at 5% of the balance owing plus 1% per month, so the cost of waiting is real. We prioritise catch-up work and, where eligible, file under the CRA's Voluntary Disclosures Program to reduce penalties.

Do you work with businesses outside major cities?

Yes. We are a cloud-based practice serving every province and territory, so your location does not change the price or the service. Browse our coverage across Canada to find your city.

Which industries do you specialise in for Corporate Tax Filing?

We work across construction, healthcare, e-commerce, professional services, restaurants, real estate, transportation, technology and non-profits, each with its own deduction profile and CRA scrutiny patterns. See all industries we serve.

What makes Corporate Tax Filing different from filing it myself?

Software applies the rules you already know about. An experienced tax accountant finds the ones you do not: capital cost allowance timing, the small business deduction threshold, shareholder loan repayment rules, and TOSI exposure on family dividends. The fee is usually smaller than the deductions it surfaces.

How does the Pay After Service work for Corporate Tax Filing?

We compile and complete your files first. You review, approve, and sign the documents before any payment is requested. We E-File to the CRA only after the payment is processed.

What is your Price Match Guarantee?

We will match any lower written quote from a verified professional Canadian accounting firm. Simply present the quote to our representative during your consultation.

Are there any hidden fees or setup charges?

No. All our pricing is fixed and transparent. Any additional charges (e.g., for transaction volumes beyond the package limits) are discussed and agreed upon upfront.

Will I have a dedicated accountant?

Yes. A certified tax accountant will be assigned to manage your account and will be available for direct support via email and phone.

How do you price corporate tax filing for a small business?

You are asking the right question, and it has a real answer. Passive investment income above $50,000 in a year grinds the small business limit down by $5 for every $1 over, eliminating it entirely at $150,000. What we add on top of that is the paperwork discipline that makes the answer stand up if anyone ever asks you to prove it.

What goes wrong most often when owners handle corporate tax filing themselves?

Let us give you the substance first and the caveats second. Taxable capital employed in Canada above $10 million reduces the small business limit, phasing it out completely at $50 million. The caveat is simply that facts on your file can shift the outcome, so treat this as the baseline rather than the final word.

Commonly Searched Corporate Tax Filing Questions

The questions Canadians actually search on this topic, answered plainly. Browse every question in the Canadian tax answers directory.

Corporate tax is income tax a corporation pays on its own profits, reported on a T2 return that is separate from the owner's personal return. Both federal and provincial tax apply. For 2026 the federal small business rate is 9% on the first $500,000 of active business income and the federal general net rate is 15%, with the province adding its own rate on top. An unincorporated business pays no corporate tax; its profit is taxed in the owner's hands.

There are two federal rates. For 2026, active business income up to $500,000 earned by a Canadian-controlled private corporation is taxed at the federal small business rate of 9%; income above that limit, and the income of corporations that do not qualify, is taxed at the federal general net rate of 15%. Every province adds its own small business and general rate, so your combined rate depends on where the corporation has a permanent establishment. Investment income is taxed under different rules.

A ratepayer is someone who pays municipal rates, meaning property taxes and local utility charges, on property they own or occupy. The municipality sets a rate against assessed value, bills the ratepayer, and funds local services from what it collects; ratepayer associations speak for owners in an area. Property tax is municipal and quite separate from income tax, though on a rental or business property it is generally deductible against that income.

It stays out of taxable income but often counts elsewhere. Amounts such as most lottery winnings and income earned inside a TFSA are not taxed at all. Some other receipts are exempt from tax yet still have to be reported, because the CRA uses net income and family net income to test benefits and credits. So an amount that costs you no tax can still reduce a benefit. Lenders and landlords apply their own definitions again.

Employees pay as they earn, through tax withheld from each pay and remitted by the employer. Everyone else pays by instalments during the year or as a single balance payment with the return. For the 2025 tax year the filing and payment deadline is 30 April 2026; self-employed filers have until 15 June 2026 to file, but the payment is still due 30 April 2026. Interest runs daily on anything unpaid after that.

There is no federal renters credit. Several provinces give rent-based relief through the provincial credits filed with your T1, including Ontario's energy and property tax credit, Manitoba's renters tax credit and Quebec's solidarity tax credit. Eligibility generally turns on residing in that province at the end of the year, having paid rent on a principal residence, and income below a phase-out level. Keep receipts and your landlord's details, and claim it each year you qualify.

Most goods and services sold in Canada are taxable and carry GST or HST at the rate for the province of supply. Two other categories exist. Zero-rated supplies, such as basic groceries, prescription drugs, medical devices and exports, are taxed at nil while the seller still claims input tax credits. Exempt supplies, such as most residential rent, health care and many financial services, carry no tax and give no input tax credit.

For 2026 Ontario's combined general corporate rate is 26.5%, and a corporation that qualifies for the small business deduction pays a combined 12.2% on income earned up to 30 June 2026. The Ontario small business rate falls from 3.2% to 2.2% effective 1 July 2026, taking that combined rate to 11.2%, and a 31 December 2026 year end straddles the change and blends to roughly 11.7%. These rates apply to income allocated to Ontario, so a corporation with a permanent establishment elsewhere splits its income between provinces.

A corporation files its own T2 return and pays tax on its profit. For 2026 a Canadian-controlled private corporation pays the federal small business rate of 9% on the first $500,000 of active business income carried on in Canada and the federal general net rate is 15%, with each province adding its own rate on top. A sole proprietorship or partnership is not taxed separately: the profit goes on the owner's T1 and is taxed at personal rates, with instalments and CPP on that income.

Open the forms and publications section of canada.ca, search by form number or title, and choose the PDF for the tax year you need, because forms change from year to year and prior-year versions stay available in the same place. Most personal filers need no printed forms at all, since software approved for NETFILE builds the T1 and transmits it. Paper filers should print the version for their province or territory of residence.
