Beaumont: Our Analysis

Beaumont, Edmonton's franco-heritage bedroom city, files young-family and trades returns: childcare expense claims, FHSA and RRSP planning, and contractors managing T5018 subcontractor reporting on the region's construction boom. Incorporated trades benefit from Alberta's 2% small business rate — roughly 11% combined — and file the AT1 beside the federal T2, with 5% GST as the only sales-tax stream.

What a Tax Services Provider Checks First in Beaumont

What does a tax services provider check first when a Beaumont file lands on the desk? The same short list every time — and it starts with the provincial side.

The very first line item we confirm for any Beaumont client: Alberta has no provincial sales tax, so only the 5% federal GST applies. This is the lowest consumption tax burden in Canada and simplifies filing considerably. Everything downstream — invoicing, bookkeeping, the year-end file — inherits that setup.

What does incorporating actually change here? The provincial half of the answer: Alberta applies a 2% small business rate and an 8% general rate, the lowest general corporate rate in the country. We revisit it with every Beaumont client before their fiscal year closes, because the right moves have to happen before the year-end date, not after.

There is a provincial side to payroll that the payroll software will not explain to you. Alberta levies no employer health tax or provincial payroll tax. Getting it registered and remitted correctly is part of what proper payroll setup means in Beaumont.

Alberta runs its own incentive programs — Alberta Innovation Employment Grant, Alberta Agri-Processing Investment Tax Credit among them — and a year-end review is the only way to know which apply. It shapes how we scope every Beaumont file.

Beaumont's business mix runs through energy, agriculture, logistics, construction and technology, and each of those sectors files differently. A tax filing specialist working locally learns those patterns quickly, because they arrive in the inbox every week.

No downtown office markup, no travel, no waiting room. An identical fixed fee in every city, and a simple rule — you review first, you pay after. It is the first thing we walk Beaumont owners through.

Beaumont Tax & Accounting Case Studies

See how our expert Beaumont tax and accounting services have helped Canadian businesses save money and stay compliant.

Case Study 1

Books Rebuilt From Source, $5,800 In Unclaimed Input Tax Found — Civil Works Company, Beaumont

The ledger at a civil works company in Beaumont, Alberta could not support its own filings. The reason was sales into HST provinces billed at AB’s 5% GST rate. Rebuilding it surfaced $5,800 in unclaimed input tax.

A civil works company in Beaumont, Alberta could not answer basic questions about its own numbers. Sales into HST provinces billed at AB’s 5% GST rate sat between the bank statements and the ledger. We assessed and claimed Alberta Agri-Processing Investment Tax Credit alongside the federal return. We then documented the process so the work does not depend on any one person remembering how it was done. Records rebuilt and reconciled, $5,800 recovered in input tax credits that the old file could not support, and a documented monthly process now in place.

Case Study 2

Incentive Review Recovered $112,000 Across 5 Open Years — Refrigerated Transport Company, Beaumont

An incentive review at a refrigerated transport company in Beaumont, Alberta recovered $112,000 across 5 open years. It found Alberta Agri-Processing Investment Tax Credit eligibility that had never been assessed.

An incentive review at a refrigerated transport company in Beaumont, Alberta started from a simple question: what has never been claimed? The answer ran to 5 years. It was driven by Alberta Agri-Processing Investment Tax Credit eligibility that had never been assessed. We assessed and claimed Alberta Innovation Employment Grant alongside the federal return. We documented eligibility to the standard a reviewer would apply rather than the standard a claim form requires. The credits produced $112,000 across the open years. The tracking now in place means the following year's claim is documented as the work happens rather than reconstructed afterwards.

Case Study 3

5-Week Turnaround Beat The Deadline And Saved $21,000 — Maple and Specialty Crop, Beaumont

A 5-week rebuild at a maple and specialty crop producer in Beaumont, Alberta got the filing in with 15 days to spare. That avoided $21,000 in penalties.

A maple and specialty crop producer in Beaumont, Alberta was weeks away from the deadline for its AB tax and accounting file. Behind that sat sector-specific exposure the previous accountant had not seen before. The exposure if the date slipped was around $21,000. We recalculated the corporate tax at the 11% combined small business rate and rebased the instalments on the current year. The filing went in complete rather than provisional, so there was no amended return to follow. Filed with 15 days to spare. $21,000 in late-filing penalties avoided, and the working papers are ready for the following year.

Case Study 4

$76,000 Reassessment Reduced To Nil On Review — Digital Product Agency, Beaumont

A $76,000 reassessment was proposed against a digital product agency in Beaumont, Alberta. It followed payroll obligations from another province applied to local staff by an out-of-province provider. The documented response reduced it to nil.

A review notice arrived at a digital product agency in Beaumont, Alberta, covering its AB tax and accounting file for two tax years. The auditor's working position was an adjustment of $76,000. It was driven by payroll obligations from another province applied to local staff by an out-of-province provider. Rather than negotiate, we rebuilt the record. We registered for the out-of-province obligations that had been triggered, then reconciled the GST filings to the sales ledger province by province. We then submitted a point-by-point response that answered each proposed adjustment with the document behind it. The auditor accepted the documented position and closed the review without adjustment, protecting $76,000 and leaving the prior filings undisturbed.

Case Study 5

$61,000 Of Penalties And Interest Cancelled On Relief — B2B SaaS Company, Beaumont

A B2B SaaS company in Beaumont, Alberta was carrying $61,000 of penalties and interest. The charges arose from a registration threshold crossed on out-of-province sales that nobody was tracking. A relief application cancelled that amount.

An assessment of $61,000 landed at a B2B SaaS company in Beaumont, Alberta following a desk review. It turned on a registration threshold crossed on out-of-province sales that nobody was tracking. The auditor had not seen the records behind it. We assessed and claimed Alberta Agri-Processing Investment Tax Credit alongside the federal return. We then set out the legislative basis for the position alongside the documents supporting it. $61,000 of penalties and interest was cancelled under the taxpayer relief provisions, and the underlying assessment was adjusted to match the filed position.

Case Study 6

Second-Province Expansion Handled, $31,500 Of Cash Released — Residential Framing Contractor, Beaumont

A residential framing contractor in Beaumont, Alberta expanded into a second province. The file already carried sales into HST provinces billed at AB’s 5% GST rate. Every obligation was set up in advance and $31,500 of cash released.

Revenue at a residential framing contractor in Beaumont, Alberta was up sharply and cash was tighter than ever. Underneath it sat sales into HST provinces billed at AB’s 5% GST rate. We assessed and claimed Alberta Innovation Employment Grant alongside the federal return. Every new obligation was set up before it was triggered, not after. That covered registration, remittance frequency and provincial filing. $31,500 of cash was released from the working capital cycle. The expansion completed with every registration and filing obligation covered from day one.

Frequently Asked Questions on Beaumont Tax Filing

Direct answers to what Canadian business owners actually ask before hiring an accountant.

How much does a tax accountant in Beaumont cost?

Corporate tax filing starts at $90 and monthly bookkeeping at $10, the same fixed rates we charge nationally. Beaumont businesses pay no location premium, and the quote is agreed before work starts. See the full pricing breakdown.

Do I need to meet my Beaumont accountant in person?

No. Everything runs through a secure portal with e-signatures, so documents never travel by mail and nothing is lost in transit. Clients across Beaumont complete an entire filing without a single in-person meeting, though calls are always available.

Which tax deadlines apply to Beaumont businesses?

Corporate T2 returns are due six months after your fiscal year-end, with any balance owing payable within two or three months depending on your CCPC status. Personal T1 returns are due April 30, and June 15 for the self-employed. GST/HST depends on your filing frequency.

Can you handle both my corporate and personal returns?

Yes, and doing both together is where most of the planning value sits. Salary-versus-dividend mix, shareholder loans and RRSP room interact across the two returns, and treating them separately is how owners overpay. Explore all our services.

What if my books are behind by several years?

That is routine work for us. We rebuild the ledger year by year, file the outstanding returns in sequence, and where eligible apply to the CRA's Voluntary Disclosures Program to reduce penalties and interest.

Are you taking on new clients in Beaumont?

Yes, we are actively taking on new corporate and personal clients in Beaumont, including mid-season transfers from another accountant. Transferring is straightforward and we request the prior files on your behalf.

What industries do you serve in Beaumont?

Construction, healthcare and medical practices, restaurants, e-commerce, real estate, transportation, professional services, technology startups and registered non-profits. Each carries a distinct deduction profile. See our industry specialisms.

How do I switch to your firm from my current accountant?

Tell us who currently holds your files and we handle the professional handover, including requesting working papers and prior-year returns. There is no gap in your compliance and no awkward conversation required on your side.

What is the deadline for filing corporate taxes in Beaumont?

In Beaumont, corporate tax returns (T2) are due within six months of the corporation's fiscal year-end. If you owe tax, the balance must be paid within 2 or 3 months of the year-end.

How much do tax accountants in Beaumont charge?

Our personal tax filing services in Beaumont start from $25, and corporate tax returns start from $90, offered under our 100% Risk-Free price match guarantee.

Does your accounting firm handle CRA audits for clients in Beaumont?

Yes! We provide direct CRA audit defense and representation services for businesses and individuals throughout Alberta and across Canada.

Do you have an office in Beaumont?

We do not have a storefront in Beaumont. Documents are exchanged on secure cloud software and everything is signed electronically, and the fee is the same in Beaumont as anywhere else in Canada, with no location premium. Our head office is at 381 Front St W, Toronto, and you can reach the team on +1-416-619-0068.

What sales tax does a Beaumont business charge?

Alberta has no provincial sales tax, so only the 5% federal GST applies. This is the lowest consumption tax burden in Canada and simplifies filing considerably. It is the first thing we walk Beaumont owners through.

What should a Beaumont corporation expect at tax time?

Alberta applies a 2% small business rate and an 8% general rate, the lowest general corporate rate in the country. That is the backdrop for every Beaumont engagement we take on.

People Also Ask About Beaumont

The questions Canadians actually search on this topic, answered plainly. Browse every question in the Canadian tax answers directory.

For the 2025 tax year the filing and payment deadline is 30 April 2026. If you or your spouse were self-employed, the filing deadline moves to 15 June 2026, but any balance owing is still due 30 April 2026. Interest starts the day after the payment deadline, and a late-filing penalty applies on top when a return with a balance owing is filed late. File on time even with nothing owing, because income-tested benefits are recalculated from the filed return.

CRA online filing for 2025 returns opened 23 February 2026 and closes 29 January 2027. Most people file between late February and the 30 April 2026 deadline, and that stretch is what tax season refers to. You can gather documents and prepare a return earlier, but it cannot be sent electronically before the system opens. Employment and investment slips such as T4 and T5 are issued by payers early in the year, and the CRA's Auto-fill service can pull the ones it already holds once you have set up My Account.

Multiply the pre-tax price by the rate for the province of supply. On a $100 purchase in 2026 that is $13.00 in Ontario (13%), $14.00 in Nova Scotia (14%), and $15.00 in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador or Prince Edward Island (15%). In the non-participating provinces and the three territories only the 5% GST applies, so $5.00, plus any provincial sales tax billed separately.

Multiply the assessed value of the property by the tax rate for its property class. Assessment is set by a provincial assessment authority on its own cycle and increases are often phased in, so the value lags the market. The rate is set each year by the municipality out of its budget, with an education portion added by the province. Both figures appear on your notice, which is why identical homes in different municipalities carry different bills.

Non-taxable income is money you receive that never enters taxable income. Common examples are lottery and most gambling winnings, gifts and inheritances, growth and withdrawals inside a TFSA, the GST/HST credit and Canada child benefit, most life insurance death benefits, and child support under current-rule agreements. A few amounts are reported and then deducted, such as workers' compensation and social assistance, because they still affect benefit calculations, so report anything that arrives on a slip even when no tax results.

Your refund is the tax already withheld or paid by instalments minus the tax you actually owe after credits and deductions, so the amount depends entirely on your own numbers - there is no standard figure. Timing is more predictable: the CRA aims to process an online return in about two weeks, and up to 16 weeks for a non-resident return. Direct deposit is faster than a cheque, and amounts owing to government can be offset.

Most municipalities let you spread the bill over several instalments or a pre-authorized monthly withdrawal instead of two lump sums, and many lenders will collect it with the mortgage payment and remit it for you. Several provinces and municipalities also run deferral programs for seniors, people with disabilities, or lower-income owners, with the deferred amount plus interest repaid when the property is sold. Contact the municipal tax office before a payment is missed.

A municipal accommodation tax, often called a hotel or occupancy tax, is a local levy on short-term accommodation charged by the municipality rather than by the CRA. Ontario municipalities are permitted to impose one, and each city or town sets its own rate, exemptions and remittance rules in its bylaw. It is separate from GST/HST, which still applies to the room charge at 13% in Ontario in 2026. Confirm the current rate with the municipality itself.

No. In Canada severance, pay in lieu of notice and a retiring allowance are fully taxable in the year you receive them. There is no tax-free slice of a redundancy payment the way some other countries allow, and tax is withheld before payment. A direct transfer to an RRSP is available only for older years of service under a narrow rule, so your ordinary RRSP room is usually the only shelter. Have settlement wording reviewed before you sign.

Total income is measured before tax. On a T1 it is the sum of your income sources for the year, such as employment income from your T4, self-employment, investment, and pension amounts, added up before deductions and before any tax withheld. Tax withheld at source is a payment toward your final bill, not a reduction in income. Deductions take total income down to net income, and further deductions give taxable income, which the rates apply to.

Yes, and it is usually worth doing. With no income you generally owe nothing, but filing is how the CRA works out the GST/HST credit, provincial credits and the Canada child benefit, and how unused tuition amounts carry forward. Report zero income on the T1 and claim what you qualify for. Benefit payments pause when a return is missing, so file even for a year with no earnings at all.

TRACS is Alberta's Tax and Revenue Administration Client Self-Service portal. Corporations and other filers use it to submit and view Alberta provincial returns, make payments, check balances and authorise representatives. It matters because Alberta does not have the CRA administer its corporate income tax: an Alberta corporation files a federal T2 with the CRA and a separate Alberta corporate return with the province through TRACS. Quebec runs a comparable system.
