Corporate Tax Filing Services: Our Analysis

A CCPC's T2 is due six months after year-end, but the balance owing is due within two months — three for many small CCPCs claiming the small business deduction. Our corporate tax filing services engagement is priced as a budget-friendly flat fee, so the cost is known before the work starts.

Working Notes From Our Corporate Tax Filing Services Files

What actually separates a clean corporate tax filing services file from a messy one? A working tax advisor would point to a short list of rules, and these notes walk through it.

There is no way around the opening fact, so it may as well come first. The 9% federal small business rate applies to the first $500,000 of active business income, and that limit is shared across associated corporations rather than available to each of them.

Right behind it comes a rule owners rarely hear about until it bites: Passive investment income above $50,000 in a year grinds the small business limit down by $5 for every $1 over, eliminating it entirely at $150,000. Then there is the matter of timing, which forgives very little: Taxable capital employed in Canada above $10 million reduces the small business limit, phasing it out completely at $50 million.

You do not need to hold all of this in your head. You need someone who does — and a tax specialist handling corporate tax filing services week after week keeps these rules current so you do not have to. The smoothest files are the ones where the client arrives with these records already assembled.

When you are ready, the process is straightforward — we agree a fixed fee up front, prepare the work, walk you through it before filing, and you pay once the service is delivered.

What Clients Ask Us About Corporate Tax Filing Services

Direct answers to what Canadian business owners actually ask before hiring an accountant.

How much does Corporate Tax Filing Services cost in Canada?

Corporate Tax Filing Services starts at a fixed fee quoted before any work begins. The quote is locked at the outset and does not change mid-engagement, and you pay only after you have reviewed and approved the deliverable. Compare every plan on our transparent pricing page.

What documents do I need for Corporate Tax Filing Services?

At minimum: prior-year returns and notices of assessment, your bank and credit-card statements for the fiscal period, payroll records if you have employees, and GST/HST filings. We send a checklist tailored to your situation after the free 15-minute call.

How long does Corporate Tax Filing Services take?

Most engagements are completed within 3 to 5 business days once your documents are complete. Catch-up work covering multiple years takes longer, and we tell you the realistic timeline before you commit rather than after.

What happens if the CRA reviews or audits my filing?

We respond on your behalf at no extra charge for any return we prepared. Every figure we file is supported by documentation retained in your file, which is what turns a CRA review from a crisis into correspondence. See how our CRA audit representation works.

Can you handle late or missed filings?

Yes. Late filing penalties compound at 5% of the balance owing plus 1% per month, so the cost of waiting is real. We prioritise catch-up work and, where eligible, file under the CRA's Voluntary Disclosures Program to reduce penalties.

Do you work with businesses outside major cities?

Yes. We are a cloud-based practice serving every province and territory, so your location does not change the price or the service. Browse our coverage across Canada to find your city.

Which industries do you specialise in for Corporate Tax Filing Services?

We work across construction, healthcare, e-commerce, professional services, restaurants, real estate, transportation, technology and non-profits, each with its own deduction profile and CRA scrutiny patterns. See all industries we serve.

What makes Corporate Tax Filing Services different from filing it myself?

Software applies the rules you already know about. An experienced tax accountant finds the ones you do not: capital cost allowance timing, the small business deduction threshold, shareholder loan repayment rules, and TOSI exposure on family dividends. The fee is usually smaller than the deductions it surfaces.

What is included in Corporate Tax Filing Services?

Our corporate tax filing services include complete filing, compliance management, and strategic advice customized to Canadian tax laws.

How do I start with Corporate Tax Filing Services?

You can start by booking a free 15-minute call. We will review your files, provide a fixed quote, and start working immediately.

How do I know if my business actually needs corporate tax filing services?

There is a widespread assumption here, and the actual position is worth stating plainly. A non-capital loss can be carried back three years and forward twenty. Which year it is applied against decides what the loss is actually worth, because the recovery comes at that year’s rate, and a carry-back is claimed with the return or by adjustment request rather than assumed. If your current setup was built on the assumption instead of the rule, that is fixable — but sooner is better than later.

What should I look for when choosing a provider for corporate tax filing services?

A tax specialist answers this differently than a search engine, because the rule has edges. A dividend between connected corporations is generally deductible in computing taxable income, but subsection 55(2) can recharacterise it as a capital gain where it exceeds safe income and no permitted purpose applies. The safe-income analysis belongs before the dividend is paid, not after. Where your business sits relative to those edges is what we establish in the first meeting.

What Canadians Search About Corporate Tax Filing Services

The questions Canadians actually search on this topic, answered plainly. Browse every question in the Canadian tax answers directory.

Online banking is the simplest route: add the CRA as a payee, select the account and tax year precisely, and pay from your chequing account. CRA My Payment takes debit card payments, and pre-authorised debit can be scheduled in My Account or My Business Account for a single amount or a run of instalments. Corporations and GST/HST registrants use the same channels under their business number. Keep the confirmation number and allow several days for the payment to post.

Income tax starts once taxable income passes the basic personal amount, and a separate provincial or territorial amount applies on top, so the break-even point shifts every year with indexation and differs by where you live. Look up the current amounts on the CRA site or in the year's return package. Credits for tuition, disability, pension income or dependants push the point higher. Filing can still be worthwhile or required with no tax owing, for benefits and credits.

Every current and past federal form, plus the full income tax and benefit package for your province, sits on the CRA pages at canada.ca, free to download and print. Signed-in users can also see the slips filed under their SIN, such as T4 and T5 information, inside CRA My Account. The CRA will mail a printed package on request by phone. Certified tax software fills the forms for you, so most filers never open a blank one.

Pay through CRA My Business Account, your bank's online tax payment service, pre-authorised debit or a third-party payment provider, always quoting the business number and the tax year the money is for. For most provinces the CRA collects the provincial share along with the federal amount. Alberta and Quebec administer their own corporate income tax, so a corporation with a permanent establishment there files and pays that part separately to the provincial authority. Instalments use the same channels as the final balance.

There is no single definition. For tax the test that matters is the small business deduction: a Canadian-controlled private corporation earning active business income claims the lower rate on the first $500,000 of it for 2026, shared across associated corporations. Federally that limit falls by $5 for every $1 of adjusted aggregate investment income above $50,000 and is gone at $150,000, while Ontario keeps the full $500,000. Grant and lending programs use their own headcount or revenue tests.

Claim every genuine business expense and keep the paperwork, then use the structural levers rather than guesswork. A corporation pays the federal small business rate of 9% on the first $500,000 of active business income for 2026 instead of personal rates, so leaving profit inside the company defers tax until you draw it. Time purchases and income around the year end, pay a reasonable salary to create RRSP room, and split income only where the rules truly allow it.

Call the individual or business tax enquiries line listed on the CRA's Contact us page, then work through the automated menu to reach an agent. Have your social insurance number or business number, your date of birth and a line amount from your last assessed return ready, because the agent cannot discuss your file without them. Wait times are longest right after the filing deadline. My Account answers many questions without a call.

Yes. The full federal basic personal amount of $16,452 is available for 2026 while net income stays at or below $181,440. Above that it is reduced gradually, reaching a floor of $14,829 once net income reaches $258,482, where the top federal bracket begins. So high earners still receive a basic amount, just the smaller one, and the reduction is a straight-line taper rather than a cliff. Both figures are indexed each year, and the phase-out is measured on net income.

All of it, at your own marginal rate rather than a special tip rate. Tips are added to your other income, so the tax depends on the bracket that income falls into: federal rates for 2026 start at 14% and rise through 20.5%, 26% and 29% to 33%, with provincial tax on top. Controlled tips paid through payroll already have income tax, CPP and EI withheld; tips received directly you report yourself.

The T2 is the federal corporate income tax return that every corporation resident in Canada files each year, including corporations that were inactive during the year. It reports one fiscal year of income, deductions and tax, and is due six months after that year end. Attached schedules carry the detail, such as the reconciliation of accounting profit to taxable income and the capital cost allowance claim. For tax years beginning after 2023 — so every 2025 and 2026 tax year — electronic filing is mandatory for essentially all corporations regardless of gross revenue, and paper-filing a T2 when electronic filing is required carries a flat $1,000 penalty, even on a nil return.

Download the annual interest statement from your loan servicer's online account. For a Canada Student Loan that is the National Student Loans Service Centre; a provincially funded portion comes from your province's student aid office, so some borrowers collect two documents. The statement shows the interest paid in the calendar year, which is the only figure the return needs. Keep it with your records, because the CRA can ask you to support the claim.

The CRA applies its prescribed arrears rate, which is reset every calendar quarter from the yield on three-month Government of Canada treasury bills and compounds daily on the unpaid balance. Because it resets quarterly, the rate applying to your debt depends on when the balance was outstanding, so take the figure from the CRA's prescribed interest rates page for each quarter. Interest also accrues on penalties, and it is not deductible on a personal return.
