QuickBooks Bookkeeping Services: Our Analysis

Monthly reconciliation is what keeps input tax credits claimable — unmatched receipts are the first thing disallowed in a GST/HST review. We quote quickbooks bookkeeping services as one cheap fixed price — the budget-friendly alternative to hourly billing.

What the Paperwork Teaches Us About QuickBooks Bookkeeping Services

Clients often arrive treating quickbooks bookkeeping services as a form-filling exercise. In practice, a tax services provider spends more time on judgment calls than on data entry — and those calls are what these notes cover.

Here is where every serious conversation about QuickBooks Bookkeeping Services begins: An input tax credit is only claimable where the supporting invoice carries the supplier’s GST/HST number — above $150 the invoice also needs the recipient’s name and a description of the supply.

From there, the file turns on a second question, and the rule behind it reads as follows. Bank feeds are not a bookkeeping system. Auto-categorised transactions still need reconciliation to statements, because a duplicated feed entry is indistinguishable from a real expense on the face of the ledger. Then there is the matter of timing, which forgives very little: Cash-basis records are not acceptable for a corporation. Income must be reported on the accrual basis, with receivables and payables recognised when they arise rather than when the money moves.

So where does that leave you? In most cases, with a decision about whether to work through quickbooks bookkeeping services alone or hand the moving parts to a tax filing specialist who tracks them for a living. To keep the engagement efficient, assemble these records before we begin.

Our terms are the same for every engagement: a fixed fee agreed before work begins, a full review with you before filing, and payment only after the service is complete.

Growth Handled Without A Missed Filing, $24,500 Freed — Residential Cleaning Franchise, Hamilton

Scaling exposed input tax credits claimed on receipts that had already been claimed once at a residential cleaning franchise in Hamilton, Ontario. The back office was rebuilt to match, freeing $24,500.

QuickBooks Bookkeeping Services Frequently Asked Questions

Direct answers to what Canadian business owners actually ask before hiring an accountant.

How much does QuickBooks Bookkeeping Services cost in Canada?

QuickBooks Bookkeeping Services starts at a fixed fee quoted before any work begins. The quote is locked at the outset and does not change mid-engagement, and you pay only after you have reviewed and approved the deliverable. Compare every plan on our transparent pricing page.

What documents do I need for QuickBooks Bookkeeping Services?

At minimum: prior-year returns and notices of assessment, your bank and credit-card statements for the fiscal period, payroll records if you have employees, and GST/HST filings. We send a checklist tailored to your situation after the free 15-minute call.

How long does QuickBooks Bookkeeping Services take?

Most engagements are completed within 3 to 5 business days once your documents are complete. Catch-up work covering multiple years takes longer, and we tell you the realistic timeline before you commit rather than after.

What happens if the CRA reviews or audits my filing?

We respond on your behalf at no extra charge for any return we prepared. Every figure we file is supported by documentation retained in your file, which is what turns a CRA review from a crisis into correspondence. See how our CRA audit representation works.

Can you handle late or missed filings?

Yes. Late filing penalties compound at 5% of the balance owing plus 1% per month, so the cost of waiting is real. We prioritise catch-up work and, where eligible, file under the CRA's Voluntary Disclosures Program to reduce penalties.

Do you work with businesses outside major cities?

Yes. We are a cloud-based practice serving every province and territory, so your location does not change the price or the service. Browse our coverage across Canada to find your city.

Which industries do you specialise in for QuickBooks Bookkeeping Services?

We work across construction, healthcare, e-commerce, professional services, restaurants, real estate, transportation, technology and non-profits, each with its own deduction profile and CRA scrutiny patterns. See all industries we serve.

What makes QuickBooks Bookkeeping Services different from filing it myself?

Software applies the rules you already know about. An experienced tax accountant finds the ones you do not: capital cost allowance timing, the small business deduction threshold, shareholder loan repayment rules, and TOSI exposure on family dividends. The fee is usually smaller than the deductions it surfaces.

What is included in QuickBooks Bookkeeping Services?

Our quickbooks bookkeeping services include complete filing, compliance management, and strategic advice customized to Canadian tax laws.

How do I start with QuickBooks Bookkeeping Services?

You can start by booking a free 15-minute call. We will review your files, provide a fixed quote, and start working immediately.

Can I switch to your firm for quickbooks bookkeeping services partway through the year?

We get this one a lot, and the answer is more concrete than people expect. Personal expenses run through a corporate account are shareholder benefits, taxable to the shareholder personally whether or not they were ever labelled as such. Bring your documents and we will show you where it lands in your numbers.

What happens during the first meeting about quickbooks bookkeeping services?

Here is what the rules actually say, stripped of the folklore: Meals and entertainment are deductible at 50 percent of the lesser of the amount paid and a reasonable amount under subsection 67.1, and the recoverable share of the GST/HST on those costs is restricted in the same proportion, with the excess recaptured. Coding them at full value overstates both the deduction and the credit. Our role as your income tax specialist is to apply that cleanly to your situation rather than to a hypothetical one.

People Also Ask About QuickBooks Bookkeeping Services

The questions Canadians actually search on this topic, answered plainly. Browse every question in the Canadian tax answers directory.

Multiply the pre-tax price by the rate for the province of supply. On a $100 purchase in 2026 that is $13.00 in Ontario (13%), $14.00 in Nova Scotia (14%), and $15.00 in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador or Prince Edward Island (15%). In the non-participating provinces and the three territories only the 5% GST applies, so $5.00, plus any provincial sales tax billed separately.

The GST rate is 5%, unchanged since 1 January 2008 and current for 2025 and 2026. It reaches every province and territory, but in five provinces it is folded into the HST: you charge 13% in Ontario, 15% in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island, and 14% in Nova Scotia, down from 15% on 1 April 2025. In Alberta, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon, 5% applies alone.

Work it from your own figures rather than a rule of thumb. A corporation on active business income pays 9% federally on the first $500,000 for 2026, plus the provincial small business rate — 3.2% in Ontario, falling to 2.2% on 1 July 2026 — so reserve that share of profit as you earn it. A sole proprietor should set aside at their marginal personal rate plus CPP. Keep GST/HST collected in a separate account; that money was never yours.

Workers' compensation benefits are not taxed, but they are not ignored either. The provincial board issues a slip, you report the amount as income on your T1 and then claim an offsetting deduction, so no tax results. Reporting still matters because the amount counts in net income used to test credits and benefits. Any top-up your employer pays, or wages paid while a claim is pending, is ordinary employment income and taxed in the normal way.

No. GST/HST you collect is not revenue: you hold it on the CRA's behalf and remit it. Report sales net of the tax on your T2125 or corporate financial statements, and post the tax collected to a liability account rather than income. Including it overstates both revenue and profit. If you are not registered and charge no tax, gross sales are simply the amounts you billed your customers.

Most bank service charges are exempt financial services, so no GST/HST is added to them. Monthly account fees, overdraft interest, transfer fees and transaction charges normally carry no tax at all. Some items billed by a bank are taxable, such as safe deposit box rental or certain administrative and safekeeping services. Your statement itemises any tax charged, and only tax actually shown there can be claimed as an input tax credit on a GST/HST return.

Your refund amount appears on the notice of assessment the CRA issues after processing your return, and in CRA My Account under your return summary. Before filing, tax software shows an estimate based on the slips and claims you entered. The CRA figure is the one that counts, because it reflects slips it received, benefit adjustments and any amount applied against a balance you owe. Online returns are usually processed in about two weeks.

Chargeable income is the term other countries use for the amount actually subject to tax. Canada uses taxable income instead: you total your income from all sources, subtract permitted deductions such as RRSP contributions and eligible employment or business expenses, and the rates apply to what is left. Credits, including the federal basic personal amount, then reduce the tax itself rather than the income. If a foreign form asks for chargeable income, your Canadian taxable income is the closest match.

A refund is only the difference between tax already withheld and the tax you actually owe, so a small refund usually means your payroll deductions were close to correct. Income with no tax withheld, such as self-employment, gig work or investment income, absorbs the rest. Non-refundable credits cut tax to zero but pay nothing beyond that. Compare your notice of assessment with the return you filed to see which lines the CRA changed.

Those lines are not on the T4 slip. A T4 uses box numbers; lines in the 20000s and 40000s belong to the T1 personal return. Line 23400 is net income before adjustments, line 23500 is the social benefits repayment and line 43500 is total payable. All three are calculated from the slips and amounts entered on the return rather than copied off a T4, and the notice of assessment confirms the final figures.

A statement of account summarises one tax account: the balance owing or credit, payments and instalments received, transfers applied from other accounts, and interest or penalties charged. The CRA issues it with certain notices and on request, and it can be viewed in My Account or My Business Account. Check it against your own records before paying, because a surprise balance often turns out to be a payment posted to the wrong period or program.

An excise stamp is the marker the Canada Revenue Agency issues to manufacturers and importers holding an excise licence, showing that federal excise duty has been accounted for on a tobacco, vaping or cannabis product. Stamps carry province-specific colouring and security features so enforcement can tell where the product was destined. Product without one is unstamped tobacco, which may be held only in narrow circumstances set out in the excise rules and otherwise attracts a special duty and penalties.
