T1 General

GST/HST Return
The sales-tax return businesses file to remit GST/HST collected, net of input tax credits.
Transfer Pricing Study: Our Analysis

The T1135 foreign income verification statement applies once specified foreign property passes $100,000 in cost — late-filing penalties start at $25 a day. We quote transfer pricing study as one economical fixed price — the budget-friendly alternative to hourly billing.

A Tax Advisor's Notes on Transfer Pricing Study

Before you hand transfer pricing study to anyone, it is worth knowing what the work actually turns on.

Before anything else, one rule sets the frame. A US LLC is a flow-through for US purposes but a corporation for Canadian purposes, and that mismatch routinely produces double taxation unless the structure is corrected.

That rule rarely travels alone; alongside it sits another: The T1135 foreign income verification statement is required once specified foreign property exceeds $100,000 in cost. Late-filing penalties start at $25 a day to a maximum of $2,500 per year, before gross-negligence penalties. The third rule is where the real exposure hides. A CCPC files its T2 within six months of year-end, with the balance due two months after (three where the small business deduction is claimed). The 9% federal small business rate applies to the first $500,000 of active business income. The filing and payment deadlines differ, and interest runs from the payment date. Filing on time while paying late still costs money.

None of this requires you to become an expert — that is what engaging a tax practitioner is for. What it does require is recognizing that transfer pricing study will reward preparation over improvisation. Think of this list as the raw material a tax advisor works from on transfer pricing study.

As with everything we file: fixed fee agreed first, your review before submission, payment after service.

$114,000 Of Working Capital Freed From The Tax Cycle — Inbound Assignee, Guelph

Incentive Review Recovered $43,000 Across 3 Open Years — US Branch Operator, Kitchener

An incentive review at a Canadian corporation operating a US branch in Kitchener, Ontario found US tax paid but no foreign tax credit claimed on the Canadian return and recovered $43,000 across 3 open years.

Case Study 3

Intergenerational Transfer Completed With $660,000 Deferred — Florida Property Owner, Surrey

A family transfer at a family with a Florida vacation property in Surrey, British Columbia would have been fully taxable because of a shareholder loan balance that would have been picked up as income on closing. Restructuring deferred $660,000.

Case Study 4

Filed On Time From A Standing Start, $91,000 Penalty Avoided — US Rental Owner, Calgary

A Canadian resident with a US rental property in Calgary, Alberta was 11 weeks from a deadline while carrying a US LLC taxed as a corporation in Canada, producing double tax on the same income. Filing complete and on time avoided roughly $91,000 in penalties.

Case Study 5

Growth Handled Without A Missed Filing, $83,000 Freed — US-Facing Canadian Corporation, Windsor

Scaling exposed foreign accounts that had passed the $100,000 T1135 threshold three years earlier at a Canadian corporation with US customers in Windsor, Ontario. The back office was rebuilt to match, freeing $83,000.

Case Study 6

$108,000 Proposed Adjustment Withdrawn In Full — Non-Resident Landlord, London

A non-resident owning Canadian rental property in London, Ontario faced a $108,000 proposed reassessment after winters spent in the United States with the day count kept casually and no residency position documented anywhere. We rebuilt the documentation and the adjustment was withdrawn in full.

Straight Answers on Transfer Pricing Study Filing

Direct answers to what Canadian business owners actually ask before hiring an accountant.

How much does Transfer Pricing Study cost in Canada?

Transfer Pricing Study starts at a fixed fee quoted before any work begins. The quote is locked at the outset and does not change mid-engagement, and you pay only after you have reviewed and approved the deliverable. Compare every plan on our transparent pricing page.

What documents do I need for Transfer Pricing Study?

At minimum: prior-year returns and notices of assessment, your bank and credit-card statements for the fiscal period, payroll records if you have employees, and GST/HST filings. We send a checklist tailored to your situation after the free 15-minute call.

How long does Transfer Pricing Study take?

Most engagements are completed within 3 to 5 business days once your documents are complete. Catch-up work covering multiple years takes longer, and we tell you the realistic timeline before you commit rather than after.

What happens if the CRA reviews or audits my filing?

We respond on your behalf at no extra charge for any return we prepared. Every figure we file is supported by documentation retained in your file, which is what turns a CRA review from a crisis into correspondence. See how our CRA audit representation works.

Can you handle late or missed filings?

Yes. Late filing penalties compound at 5% of the balance owing plus 1% per month, so the cost of waiting is real. We prioritise catch-up work and, where eligible, file under the CRA's Voluntary Disclosures Program to reduce penalties.

Do you work with businesses outside major cities?

Yes. We are a cloud-based practice serving every province and territory, so your location does not change the price or the service. Browse our coverage across Canada to find your city.

Which industries do you specialise in for Transfer Pricing Study?

We work across construction, healthcare, e-commerce, professional services, restaurants, real estate, transportation, technology and non-profits, each with its own deduction profile and CRA scrutiny patterns. See all industries we serve.

What makes Transfer Pricing Study different from filing it myself?

Software applies the rules you already know about. An experienced tax accountant finds the ones you do not: capital cost allowance timing, the small business deduction threshold, shareholder loan repayment rules, and TOSI exposure on family dividends. The fee is usually smaller than the deductions it surfaces.

What is included in Transfer Pricing Study services?

Our transfer pricing study services include complete filing, compliance management, and strategic advice customized to Canadian tax laws.

How do I start with Transfer Pricing Study services?

You can start by booking a free 15-minute call. We will review your files, provide a fixed quote, and start working immediately.

Can I switch to your firm for transfer pricing study partway through the year?

There is a widespread assumption here, and the actual position is worth stating plainly. A US LLC is a flow-through for US purposes but a corporation for Canadian purposes, and that mismatch routinely produces double taxation unless the structure is corrected. If your current setup was built on the assumption instead of the rule, that is fixable — but sooner is better than later.

How long does transfer pricing study usually take from start to finish?

A tax practitioner answers this differently than a search engine, because the rule has edges. The T1135 foreign income verification statement is required once specified foreign property exceeds $100,000 in cost. Late-filing penalties start at $25 a day to a maximum of $2,500 per year, before gross-negligence penalties. Where your business sits relative to those edges is what we establish in the first meeting.

What Canadians Search About Transfer Pricing Study

The questions Canadians actually search on this topic, answered plainly. Browse every question in the Canadian tax answers directory.

File a T1 return for the year, sending it electronically with CRA-certified software or mailing a paper return. Gather your slips and receipts first and check them against the ones listed in My Account. For the 2025 tax year the filing and payment deadline was 30 April 2026, or 15 June 2026 to file if you or your spouse were self-employed, with payment still due 30 April 2026. CRA online filing for 2025 returns closes 29 January 2027.

CRA online filing for 2025 returns opened 23 February 2026 and closes 29 January 2027. Most people file between late February and the 30 April 2026 deadline, and that stretch is what tax season refers to. You can gather documents and prepare a return earlier, but it cannot be sent electronically before the system opens. Employment and investment slips such as T4 and T5 are issued by payers early in the year, and the CRA's Auto-fill service can pull the ones it already holds once you have set up My Account.

A refund is the tax already paid minus the tax actually owed. Add the income tax withheld on your slips to any instalments you paid, work out tax payable on your total income after deductions and credits, and the difference comes back if the first figure is larger. Large refunds usually trace to over-withholding on employment income, RRSP contributions, or credits transferred to you. Run the numbers through the CRA's or a commercial estimator before you file.

Canada taxes income in graduated brackets, so only the income above a threshold is taxed at that bracket's higher rate and moving up a bracket never reprices the income below it. There is one federal set of brackets and a separate set for each province and territory, and the thresholds are indexed to inflation every year. Look up the current figures for your province on the CRA rate tables rather than relying on an older list.

Insurance premiums are generally an exempt financial service, so no GST/HST is charged and the insurer cannot claim input tax credits on costs tied to that supply. Exempt is not the same as zero-rated: a zero-rated supply is taxed at 0% and still supports input tax credit recovery. Some related charges, such as certain administrative or brokerage services billed separately, can be taxable. Check the CRA's guidance on financial services for a specific product.

Interest starts the day after your balance-due date and compounds daily until you pay. For the 2025 tax year, a personal balance was due 30 April 2026, so interest ran from 1 May 2026, including for self-employed filers whose return was not due until 15 June 2026. A corporation's balance is due two months after its year end, or three months for an eligible small-business corporation. The prescribed interest rate changes quarterly.

The realistic options are CRA-certified software you run yourself, a seasonal walk-in preparer, a free volunteer clinic if your income is modest and the return is simple, or an accounting firm. A firm earns its fee once there is self-employment, rental, investment or cross-border income, or a CRA letter to answer. We agree the fee before work starts, and you pay after the service. The first 15-minute consultation is free.

Usually yes, if you are not registered. Non-resident digital suppliers such as ad networks and software subscriptions must register under CRA's digital economy rules and charge GST/HST to Canadian customers who are not registered themselves. If you give the platform a valid GST/HST number, it generally stops charging the tax and you account for it yourself where the rules require. Tax charged on genuine business purchases is normally recoverable as an input tax credit once you are registered.

Non-employment income is anything you earn outside a job: self-employment or freelance work, rent, interest, dividends, capital gains, pensions, and benefit or support payments. It usually arrives with no tax withheld, which is why a balance is often owing at filing time and why the CRA may later ask for instalments. Most of it still has to go on your T1, whether it came on a slip such as a T5 or T4A, or on no slip at all.

Yes, in more than one way. Municipalities charge annual property tax on land and any buildings on it, based on assessed value. Selling land can trigger tax on the gain, with one-half of a capital gain included in income for 2025 and 2026, or full business income if you were effectively trading in land. GST/HST often applies when a business sells vacant land, while a sale of personal-use land by an individual is frequently exempt. Provincial land transfer tax normally falls on the buyer.

Tax evasion is a criminal offence, prosecuted separately from an ordinary reassessment. On conviction a court can impose a fine set as a share of the tax evaded and, in serious cases, imprisonment, and the tax, interest and civil penalties remain owing on top. The CRA can also apply a gross negligence penalty for a false statement without any prosecution. Correcting a past return before the CRA contacts you can reduce or avoid penalties through the Voluntary Disclosures Program.

CRA My Account is the record for individuals: notices of assessment, balances, instalment reminders, RRSP and TFSA room, benefit payments and most slips your employer or bank filed, such as T4 and T5. Businesses use My Business Account for GST/HST and payroll accounts. Registration needs your social insurance number, date of birth and an amount from a recently assessed return. A representative you authorise can view the same information.
