Campbellton: Our Analysis

Campbellton faces Quebec across the Restigouche bridge, so interprovincial files are routine: residents employed in Quebec reconcile that province's higher withholdings on their New Brunswick return, and employers manage province-of-employment payroll rules. The regional hospital anchors professional files, and NB's single 15% HST return plus 2.5% small business rate keep the business side lean.

What a Tax Consultant Checks First in Campbellton

Filing from Campbellton comes with a provincial rulebook of its own. Here is what a tax consultant watches in New Brunswick.

New Brunswick uses a single 15% HST administered by the CRA, filed on one combined return. That single sentence shapes how every invoice leaving a Campbellton business should be written, which is why it sits at the top of our onboarding review.

Every year we run the same exercise with incorporated Campbellton clients: hold the provincial rate picture up against the draft numbers. New Brunswick applies a 2.5% small business rate, producing an 11.5% combined rate. The planning window closes with the fiscal year, so the review has to happen while there is still time to act.

There is a provincial side to payroll that the payroll software will not explain to you. New Brunswick levies no employer health tax. Getting it registered and remitted correctly is part of what proper payroll setup means in Campbellton.

Ask your tax consultant to walk the provincial program list against your year. Programs such as New Brunswick Small Business Investor Tax Credit, New Brunswick Research and Development Tax Credit exist precisely for activities many New Brunswick businesses already do; the only way to know whether yours qualify is to check. Most Campbellton owners meet this rule for the first time at their first year-end with us.

Local knowledge in tax work is really sector knowledge. Campbellton runs on forestry, energy, food processing, information technology and logistics, so that is where a tax filing specialist's pattern recognition gets built — and where it pays off on your return.

Documents move on secure cloud software, the fee is the same across Canada, and payment follows your approval. For a Campbellton business, that is the ground floor of the filing.

Case Study 1

Remuneration Review Saved $53,000 Across Corporate And Personal Returns — Mobile App Studio, Campbellton

A remuneration review at a mobile app studio in Campbellton, New Brunswick saved $53,000 across the corporate and personal returns. It found instalments still calculated on a year the business had long outgrown.

Nothing was wrong at a mobile app studio in Campbellton, New Brunswick. The filings were on time and accurate. What they were not was planned. Instalments still calculated on a year the business had long outgrown had never been reviewed. We recalculated the corporate tax at the 11.5% combined small business rate and rebased the instalments on the current year. We ran the numbers across both the corporate and personal returns, so the saving was real rather than deferred into someone else's hands. $53,000 came off the combined corporate and personal tax bill, and the structure holds for future years without further work.

Case Study 2

18 Months Reconciled And $7,200 Of Input Tax Recovered — Refrigerated Transport Company, Campbellton

18 months of records at a refrigerated transport company in Campbellton, New Brunswick had never been reconciled. That left out-of-province sales billed at the NB rate instead of the customer’s. Rebuilding recovered $7,200.

Nothing reconciled at a refrigerated transport company in Campbellton, New Brunswick. Every filing started with 18 months of cleanup. The file was carrying out-of-province sales billed at the NB rate instead of the customer’s. We rebuilt from source rather than correcting on top of the existing file. We rebuilt the sales ledger by customer location, applied the correct place-of-supply rate to each stream, and filed the adjusted HST returns. Then we set the routine that keeps it clean. 18 months reconciled to the bank. The close now takes 5 days, and $7,200 of previously unclaimable input tax was recovered in the process.

Case Study 3

Desk-Review Assessment Of $37,500 Vacated — Courier Fleet, Campbellton

A desk review assessed a courier fleet in Campbellton, New Brunswick $37,500. The dispute was over sector-specific exposure the previous accountant had not seen before. Producing the records vacated the assessment.

A courier fleet in Campbellton, New Brunswick was carrying $37,500 of penalties and interest. The charges arose from sector-specific exposure the previous accountant had not seen before. Much of that amount accumulated during a period the CRA itself had delayed. We assessed and claimed New Brunswick Research and Development Tax Credit alongside the federal return. We framed the relief application on the specific grounds the CRA guidelines recognise rather than on general hardship. The assessment was vacated. $37,500 came off the account, and the documentation now on file makes the same position straightforward to defend next time.

Case Study 4

Collections Halted And $103,000 Cut From A 7-Year Backlog — Regional Freight Carrier, Campbellton

Collections had begun against a regional freight carrier in Campbellton, New Brunswick over 7 years of unfiled returns. Bringing them current cut $103,000 from the balance.

By the time a regional freight carrier in Campbellton, New Brunswick called, 7 years were outstanding. The CRA had assessed on estimates. Underneath it sat 15% HST charged on every sale regardless of where the customer was located. We reconstructed the records year by year. We assessed and claimed New Brunswick Small Business Investor Tax Credit alongside the federal return. Each filing replaced an arbitrary assessment with a real one. The account is current. Filing on real numbers rather than CRA estimates reduced the balance by $103,000, and a relief application addressed part of the accumulated interest.

Case Study 5

$86,000 Credit Claim Filed And Accepted Without Adjustment — Fishing Enterprise, Campbellton

A fishing enterprise in Campbellton, New Brunswick had never tested its work against the eligibility rules. The resulting $86,000 claim was accepted without adjustment.

A fishing enterprise in Campbellton, New Brunswick assumed the credits did not apply to a business its size. New Brunswick Research and Development Tax Credit eligibility that had never been assessed meant they had applied all along. We identified the qualifying activity and built the documentation to support it. Then we recalculated the corporate tax at the 11.5% combined small business rate and rebased the instalments on the current year. $86,000 recovered. Because the eligibility analysis is on file, the same claim can be repeated each year with a fraction of the effort.

Case Study 6

Scaled To 85 Staff With $91,000 Of Working Capital Freed — Oilfield Services Company, Campbellton

Growth at an oilfield services company in Campbellton, New Brunswick had outrun the back office. Instalments still calculated on a year the business had long outgrown broke first. Headcount reached 85 with $91,000 of cash freed.

An oilfield services company in Campbellton, New Brunswick was growing fast, with headcount reaching 85 in eighteen months. The back office had not kept up. Instalments still calculated on a year the business had long outgrown was the first thing to break. We rebuilt the sales ledger by customer location, applied the correct place-of-supply rate to each stream, and filed the adjusted HST returns. We built the compliance calendar for the size the business was becoming rather than the size it had been. The business reached 85 staff with no missed remittance and no late filing. $91,000 of working capital was freed in the process.

What Clients Ask Us About Campbellton Tax Filing

Direct answers to what Canadian business owners actually ask before hiring an accountant.

How much does a tax accountant in Campbellton cost?

Corporate tax filing starts at $90 and monthly bookkeeping at $10, the same fixed rates we charge nationally. Campbellton businesses pay no location premium, and the quote is agreed before work starts. See the full pricing breakdown.

Do I need to meet my Campbellton accountant in person?

No. Everything runs through a secure portal with e-signatures, so documents never travel by mail and nothing is lost in transit. Clients across Campbellton complete an entire filing without a single in-person meeting, though calls are always available.

Which tax deadlines apply to Campbellton businesses?

Corporate T2 returns are due six months after your fiscal year-end, with any balance owing payable within two or three months depending on your CCPC status. Personal T1 returns are due April 30, and June 15 for the self-employed. GST/HST depends on your filing frequency.

Can you handle both my corporate and personal returns?

Yes, and doing both together is where most of the planning value sits. Salary-versus-dividend mix, shareholder loans and RRSP room interact across the two returns, and treating them separately is how owners overpay. Explore all our services.

What if my books are behind by several years?

That is routine work for us. We rebuild the ledger year by year, file the outstanding returns in sequence, and where eligible apply to the CRA's Voluntary Disclosures Program to reduce penalties and interest.

Are you taking on new clients in Campbellton?

Yes, we are actively taking on new corporate and personal clients in Campbellton, including mid-season transfers from another accountant. Transferring is straightforward and we request the prior files on your behalf.

What industries do you serve in Campbellton?

Construction, healthcare and medical practices, restaurants, e-commerce, real estate, transportation, professional services, technology startups and registered non-profits. Each carries a distinct deduction profile. See our industry specialisms.

How do I switch to your firm from my current accountant?

Tell us who currently holds your files and we handle the professional handover, including requesting working papers and prior-year returns. There is no gap in your compliance and no awkward conversation required on your side.

What is the deadline for filing corporate taxes in Campbellton?

In Campbellton, corporate tax returns (T2) are due within six months of the corporation's fiscal year-end. If you owe tax, the balance must be paid within 2 or 3 months of the year-end.

How much do tax accountants in Campbellton charge?

Our personal tax filing services in Campbellton start from $25, and corporate tax returns start from $90, offered under our 100% Risk-Free price match guarantee.

Does your accounting firm handle CRA audits for clients in Campbellton?

Yes! We provide direct CRA audit defense and representation services for businesses and individuals throughout New Brunswick and across Canada.

Do you have an office in Campbellton?

We do not have a storefront in Campbellton. Documents are exchanged on secure cloud software and everything is signed electronically, and the fee is the same in Campbellton as anywhere else in Canada, with no location premium. Our head office is at 381 Front St W, Toronto, and you can reach the team on +1-416-619-0068.

How does sales tax work for businesses in Campbellton?

New Brunswick uses a single 15% HST administered by the CRA, filed on one combined return. That single point drives more Campbellton conversations than any other.

What should a Campbellton corporation expect at tax time?

New Brunswick applies a 2.5% small business rate, producing an 11.5% combined rate. Most Campbellton owners meet this rule for the first time at their first year-end with us.

Searched Questions About Campbellton

The questions Canadians actually search on this topic, answered plainly. Browse every question in the Canadian tax answers directory.

Canadian income tax is built up in layers. You total your income for the year, subtract the deductions you qualify for to arrive at taxable income, then apply the federal brackets and your province's brackets to that figure. Each bracket rate applies only to the income sitting inside it, so earning more never retaxes the dollars below. Non-refundable credits, starting with the basic personal amount, come off the tax afterwards. Look up the CRA bracket table for the tax year you are filing.

Online banking is the simplest route: add the CRA as a payee, select the account and tax year precisely, and pay from your chequing account. CRA My Payment takes debit card payments, and pre-authorised debit can be scheduled in My Account or My Business Account for a single amount or a run of instalments. Corporations and GST/HST registrants use the same channels under their business number. Keep the confirmation number and allow several days for the payment to post.

Pay through your bank's online banking by adding the CRA as a payee and choosing the right account and year, through My Payment with a debit card, by pre-authorised debit scheduled in My Account, by credit card through a third-party provider that charges its own fee, or at a bank counter with a remittance voucher. For 2025 personal returns the payment deadline was 30 April 2026, including for the self-employed, and interest runs daily on anything unpaid after that.

Medical costs give a non-refundable credit rather than a deduction. Eligible items include prescription drugs, dental work, eyeglasses and contact lenses, fees paid to medical practitioners authorised to practise, private health plan premiums, attendant care and travel for treatment unavailable locally. Over-the-counter products and most cosmetic procedures do not qualify. Only the portion above an income-based threshold counts, the claim period may end at any point in the tax year rather than following the calendar year, and pooling the family claim on one spouse usually helps.

You can file a Canadian personal return at no cost using CRA-certified free tax software, which sends the return through NETFILE. Volunteer clinics run by community organisations also prepare simple returns free of charge for people with modest income. Paper filing costs only postage. Free software suits straightforward employment and pension income; self-employment, rental or foreign property usually needs a preparer. CRA online filing for 2025 returns opened 23 February 2026 and closes 29 January 2027.

Yes, and it is usually worth doing. Filing with little or no income is how you claim the GST/HST credit, provincial and territorial credits and, if you have children, the Canada child benefit - these are based on an assessed return each year. Filing also carries forward tuition and other unused amounts, creates RRSP room from any earned income, and keeps your CRA record current for later years.

Your municipal assessment notice, or your province's assessment authority, shows the assessed value and usually separates land from buildings. That split matters for tax: land is not depreciable, so a rental or business property's cost has to be allocated between land and building before you claim capital cost allowance, and the allocation must be reasonable and documented. A purchase agreement, an appraisal or comparable land sales support it better than the assessment alone.

Land value normally comes from an appraisal, or from splitting a single purchase price between land and building on a reasonable basis such as an appraisal or the land-to-building ratio on the municipal assessment notice. The split matters because capital cost allowance can be claimed on the building but never on land, and each part carries its own cost for calculating a gain on sale. Keep the appraisal or assessment notice with your records to support the allocation.

Massage therapy is generally taxable rather than exempt. The health care exemption reaches a practitioner's service only where the profession is regulated widely enough to meet the test in the legislation, and massage therapy has not met it, so a therapist charges GST/HST once past the $30,000 small-supplier threshold that applies for 2026. Proposals to exempt it have been raised but not enacted. The offset is input tax credits on rent, table, linens and supplies.

The RESP lifetime contribution limit is $50,000 per beneficiary, unchanged since 2007 and still the figure for 2026, and there is no annual limit. Contributions are not deductible. If total contributions for one child go over $50,000, each subscriber pays tax of 1% per month on their share of the excess for every month it stays in a plan, so track deposits across every plan for that child.

Your purchase price does not set your property tax directly, but it becomes part of the sales evidence assessment authorities use to value comparable homes, so paying well above market can pull your assessment up at the next valuation. A private appraisal done for a mortgage or refinancing is not shared with the assessor and changes nothing on its own. The assessed value on your notice, times the municipal rate, is what drives the bill.

Not always, but filing every year is usually the better choice. A return is required when you owe tax, when the CRA asks for one, and in situations such as disposing of property or repaying certain benefits. Even with no tax payable, filing keeps benefit and credit payments flowing, builds RRSP room and records tuition amounts or capital losses you can carry forward. Personal returns for the 2025 tax year were due 30 April 2026.
